This isn’t a story meant to bring sadness, but rather one to inspire.
It’s a tale of triumph and thankfulness.
The amazing photo captured by @brunostaub for @atmcollection in New York City shows a stunning portrait. It appears simple, yet powerfully reveals vulnerability in a triumphant manner. It serves as a gentle reminder to trust in God and recognize that I am continuously progressing towards victory. No matter how old I become or the societal limitations and boundaries that exist, I should never forget that I am still on a path to triumph.
Here is why :
It brings back memories of a picture in slide two of me when I was about four years old, taken in Kisugu around 1997. A kind elderly white lady, who was a benefactor, captured the moment while my brother and I were playing outside her gate, hoping to receive some delicious treats.
After a few months, we suddenly had to move when my brother, Joel, passed away. We couldn’t stay in touch with the lady except for the portrait she had given to my mom.
I wish I could let her know that little Joy has grown up well and will always be a happy and grateful child.
Now, at the age of 28, I feel like I’m just starting to discover God’s purpose for my life.
Growing up in challenging circumstances was tough, but we always appreciated having food, water, and a roof over our heads. Living conditions were difficult down there, but somehow we managed to go to school and hold onto hope for a better future. We were fortunate to encounter genuinely kind-hearted people, whom we saw as family, and they never made us feel like peasants. They were like angels sent by God.

The following slides show pictures of the children from @little_hands_of_grace. In 2019, we created a rescue team that welcomes anyone who can help children from disadvantaged families in Uganda. Our goal is to ensure they can go to school, meet their basic needs, dream big, and have a childhood instead of shouldering adult responsibilities at a young age.

Sometimes we assume these things are obvious, but in reality, they’re not.
During castings or even at work, I’m often asked if my hair, when styled in cornrows, can be as short as shown in the first picture. Conversely, if my hair is styled in a short and neat afro like in the first picture, I’m asked if it’s long enough for cornrows.
The main contrast between short hair and styled hair lies in the way they are treated using either a hot blow hair dryer or a cold water spray (or the opposite way around).
I can go from having my hair in a puff to having it very short in a matter of seconds, without needing to cut it. This magical transformation is due to the nature of afro hair, which is known as shrinkage.
Our hair is both short and long. In the morning, you might see me with very short hair, but by the evening, it can be styled in a long puff. I hope this clarifies things. So, my hair isn’t the reason why I don’t get job bookings. Just let me know what you want, and I’ll give it to you without even picking up a pair of scissors. It’s that simple.
